Amazon Relay Box Truck Insurance Requirements

Amazon Relay box truck insurance requirements can be a little more expensive than going over the road. Amazon Relay can be a great way to start a box trucking business. It’s a bit easier than other forms of trucking as it requires less experience and has very few requirements. The downside to Amazon Relay is that there are few insurance options available for Amazon Relay companies because of the lack of regulations.

For those who decide to use Amazon Relay as a company to haul freight for, you should consider one of the following insurance options to stay within the best trucking insurance requirements.

Amazon Relay Box Truck Insurance Requirements

First, General Liability Insurance protects the policyholder from third-party liability claims such as lawsuits and property damage. Combined with cargo coverage, this type of insurance can be used to protect your business against claims from uninsured or underinsured motorists. This form of insurance is an added expense but offers a simple protection plan if the truck driver is in an accident. The minimum requirements for Amazon Relay are as follows.

  • Commercial General Liability not less than $1,000,000 per occurrence and $2,000,000 in the aggregate

Second, Cargo Insurance protects the cargo being shipped by a carrier in transit with explicit details about the time period it covers and in what geographical location. This type of coverage can be used in conjunction with General liability; however, it only covers specific items being shipped at certain times and locations. In order to satisfy this requirement, the minimum amount of cargo insurance is.

  • Cargo coverage of least $100,000

Third, Physical Damage Coverage protects the truck from physical damage. This type of coverage generally covers damages to the truck itself, such as fire, theft, hail, hurricane, flood, or vandalism. For physical damage coverage to apply, you must have comprehensive insurance on your policy. So if you are only carrying cargo in your truck, this would be the type of coverage you will need to get.

  • Auto Liability not less than $1,000,000 per occurrence, including a trailer replacement coverage of $50,000

Amazon Relay also requires Workers’ Compensation which protects an insured party from personal injury caused by employment. This type of policy requires the business have at least six employees to qualify for this type of coverage. The two types of workers’ compensation benefits are (1) weekly payments to compensate for lost wages and (2) payment of medical expenses for employees who are injured or ill as a result of their employment.

  • Workers’ Compensation insurance in all jurisdictions where your company operates

  • Employer Liability not less than $100,000 per occurrence

Other requirements to haul for Amazon Relay are pretty standard. They require an active DOT and MC number with an interstate authority. In addition, your trucking company will need to be classified as “Property for hire”. Furthermore, your safety rating must either be satisfactory, “Not rated” or “None.”

As far as the box truck size, it will need to be 26 feet long with a liftgate and pallet jack. Once you can satisfy these requirements, head on over to their website and sign up at https://relay.amazon.com/get-started
